The Rwanda JR Troupe is a talented, ambitious group of youth drummers & dancers ages 4-24. These youth have an abundant amount of resilience & devotion. They take pride in being Rwandan, representing and sharing their culture.
For many of these young people, the opportunity to learn traditional Rwandan drum and dance is not just an activity — it is the brightest part of their day. On off days, when they are not scheduled to participate, the kids come anyway. They sit. They watch. They absorb. Because something in the rhythm calls them back even when nothing else does. The JR Troupe has grown to more than 100 members, practicing multiple times a week under the guidance of culture keepers who understand that what they are passing down is far greater than technique.
